A Look at Preventative Botox

Designed to stop wrinkles from developing, preventative Botox can help to minimize visible signs of aging. Whilst many people choose to have Botox injections to reduce the appearance of existing wrinkles and relieve other medical issues, preventative Botox is completely aesthetic and aims to prevent wrinkles from occurring at all.

How does preventative Botox work?

They say that prevention is better than treatment, and preventative Botox injections certainly fall into this category. When injected, Botox interrupts the nerve signals to the muscles. Typically, the muscles in our face contract thousands of times each day, and this can cause fine lines and wrinkles to develop

By preventing muscle contractions, Botox injections also minimize the development of wrinkles and allow existing signs of aging to relax and become less noticeable. When used as a preventative measure, Botox injections are administered to patients who do not yet have wrinkles or who have very fine lines.

Preventative Box injections are typically applied in areas in which wrinkles are most likely to occur. These include on the forehead, around the eyebrows, at the outer side of your eye (crow’s feet) and on frown lines near your mouth. Of course, your clinician will carry out a comprehensive assessment to determine which areas are likely to provide the most benefit to you.

What are the benefits?

Preventative Botox is most effective when it’s administered to patients in their twenties or early thirties. At this age, wrinkles have yet to fully form and the skin is often free from fine lines or visible signs of aging.

When applied at this stage, Botox injections can prevent wrinkles from forming and enable you to maintain a youthful appearance. If you choose to maintain a regular schedule of injections, you can cultivate this youthful visage for as long as you like.

While Botox injections can effectively reduce the appearance of wrinkles once they are present, preventative Botox offers patients a way of avoiding wrinkles altogether. Furthermore, Botox injections are a relatively low-cost way of managing the aging process. When compared to topical solutions and alternative treatments, Botox injections are often more cost-effective in the long-term.

Are there any risks associated with preventative Botox?

Preventative Botox injections are, essentially, the same as standard Botox injections. They are simply administered at a different stage in the aging process. Whilst Botox may not be a suitable treatment for everyone, it is widely used and generally well-regarded.

Immediately following the treatment, you may notice slight bumps at the site of the injection. These typically disappear within thirty minutes. However, most patients are advised to keep their face upright for at least four hours following the treatment and to avoid exercising during this time.

Some people experience a headache or sinus pain following the treatment, whilst others may notice swelling and bruising at the site of the injection. However, the risk of side effects can be reduced by visiting a qualified, trained and experienced practitioner. As a well-established treatment, preventative Botox is a safe, viable and effective treatment option for the vast majority of people.
