As we age, we become more prone to a variety of skin issues. We can’t escape the wrinkling and sagging of our skin, and we’re more prone to acne scars and age spots.
To solve these skin issues, people often turn to over-the-counter (OTC) products like moisturizers and skin cream. For a more permanent solution, you might have considered a cosmetic procedure, like Botox and micro-needling, to bring back your skin’s natural look.
Although these treatments are excellent, body rejuvenation may be a more reasonable option. At Vargas Face & Skin, we’ll walk you through body rejuvenation and what you can expect from this treatment.
Who Needs Body Rejuvenation?
Body rejuvenation is ideal for people who have skincare concerns brought about by age, acne, or sun exposure. It’s natural for your skin and body to feel tired and old, especially if you work hard and barely have time for proper wellness.
A full-body rejuvenation will give you a youthful glow by treating damaged tissues, which will have major improvements on your skin.
Depending on the procedure, body rejuvenation can treat one or more of the following skin problems:
- Acne scars
- Age spots
- Crow’s feet
- Enlarged oil glands
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Sagging skin
- Uneven skin tone
Benefits of Body Rejuvenation
Body rejuvenation, like other procedures, offers several benefits, including:
- Cleansing of the Skin
Body rejuvenation treatments serve as an exfoliator, clearing your skin of dirt and debris. It also gets rid of dead skin cells, minimizing instances of clogged pores, dry patches, and flaky skin.
- Enhanced Appearance of the Skin
Although body rejuvenation doesn’t always yield perfect skin, it enhances your look once the treatment and healing process is complete. Your skin will be livelier, making you look young and healthy.
- Removal of Acne Scars
Having acne can be frustrating, even more so when they leave scars on the face. Sometimes home remedies and over-the-counter products can do the job, but others seem permanent.
Body rejuvenation dramatically removes acne scars. Using a laser or photothermal energy, it strips away the top layer of the skin, removing a bulk of the tissue with the acne scar. This results in the acne scar decreasing in size or disappearing altogether.
- Improved Confidence
Since skin issues are outwardly visible to everyone, it can cause you to withdraw from social events. With body rejuvenation, you can resolve most skin problems, improving your confidence.
What Goes on the Body Rejuvenation Process?
The process for body rejuvenation process depends on the type of treatment. At Vargas Face & Skin Center, we offer two types of body rejuvenation:
#1: Laser Resurfacing Treatment
Laser resurfacing is a treatment that uses a laser to treat minor facial flaws and enhances your skin’s appearance. It can be used to treat:
- Age spots
- Fine wrinkles
- Mild to moderate acne scars
- Skin damaged by the sun
- Uneven skin tone or texture
This treatment is usually treated as an outpatient procedure. Your doctor will use medication to numb the skin. In extensive treatments, you might need to be sedated. A laser is then directed at your skin, the beam destroying the epidermis. While this is happening, the laser heats the dermis, accelerating collagen procedure and resulting in better skin texture and tone.
After the procedure, your skin might be itchy, raw, and swollen. You need to apply a thick ointment on the treated area, and you might need to use cold compresses and take a pain reliever.
#2: Broad Band Light Therapy
Broad Band Light (BBL) Therapy is the type of intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy. This treatment uses high-intensity pulses of light to enhance the color and texture of your skin without surgery.
BBL Therapy treats skin issues like:
- Age spots
- Pigmented lesions
- Redness and visible blood vessels in the face
- Uneven skin texture
- Vascular lesions
The heat from the light stimulates your skin to regenerate new collagen, blending the natural color of your skin and restoring your skin to its natural beauty. The photothermal energy removes the vessels that cause redness.
Unlike the laser resurfacing treatment, the BBL is equipped with cooling features, providing minimal discomfort during the procedure. Treatments usually take around 30 minutes to one hour, but it is recommended that you undergo BBL Therapy twice to four times a year for the best results.
What is the Right Treatment for Me?
Despite the benefits of body rejuvenation, it is not for everyone. To determine what body rejuvenation procedure is for you, consult with a doctor. They will identify if you’re qualified for treatment and specify which procedure is right for you by:
- Asking about your medical history: You will need to answer questions about your medical history. The doctor will also ask about medications you’re taking or have taken, as well as any cosmetic procedures you’ve undergone in the past.
- Undergoing a physical exam: The doctor will examine your skin and the area that requires treatment. They will then conclude what changes can be made and how the procedure will affect the thickness and tone of your skin, among other features.
- Discussing your expectations: Talk to your doctor about your expectations and motivations. Ask them about the potential risks and side effects of the procedure. Make sure to understand the healing time and results.
The doctor will also recommend precautions before and after a procedure, including:
- Taking medication: If you’re having laser resurfacing, your doctor might prescribe an antiviral medication before and after the treatment to reduce the risk of viral infections.
- Minimizing sun exposure: Too much sun exposure two months before the procedure may cause irregular pigmentation in the treated area.
- Stopping smoking: If you smoke, you might need to stop at least two weeks before the procedure. This helps avoid complications and helps your body heal.
