Deep Plane Facelift
Reclaim a Youthful Look with a Deep Plane Facelift at Vargas Face and Skin Center
As we age, it’s natural for skin along the jawline, cheeks, and neck to lose elasticity and volume. For those seeking a truly transformative solution, the Deep Plane Facelift at Vargas Face and Skin Center in Kansas City offers one of the most advanced and effective approaches to facial rejuvenation available today.
Why Choose a Deep Plane Facelift?
Unlike traditional facelift techniques that primarily tighten skin and superficial tissues, the Deep Plane Facelift works at a deeper anatomical level. This procedure lifts and repositions the deep structural layers of the face, including the muscle layer (SMAS) and fat pads, allowing for more comprehensive and natural-looking results. The technique is particularly effective for correcting sagging cheeks, deep nasolabial folds, jowls, and loose neck skin.
By releasing and repositioning the facial ligaments rather than simply pulling the skin, the Deep Plane Facelift preserves your natural expressions while dramatically rejuvenating your overall appearance.
Procedure Details
Performed by Dr. Vargas, the Deep Plane Facelift is a meticulously executed surgical procedure that requires advanced expertise and precision. During the procedure, the deeper layers of the face are carefully lifted and repositioned to restore youthful contours without the telltale signs of tightness or an “overdone” appearance.
This facelift is typically done under general or twilight anesthesia and involves a longer recovery period than minimally invasive procedures—but the results are significantly more comprehensive and longer-lasting.

Deep PLane Facelift Q&A
A Deep Plane Facelift is an advanced surgical procedure designed to rejuvenate the face by lifting and repositioning deeper facial structures, not just the skin. It is considered one of the most natural-looking and long-lasting types of facelifts available.
Yes. While surgery usually offers more improvement than non-surgical procedures, there are other procedures that can correct the lower face and neck. The next best procedure is the Innertyte to help tighten up the skin. This procedure is best for younger patients who are just beginning to see signs of aging. Another option is Laser Liposuction for patients who have more of an issue with excess fat in the area.
There are many facial cosmetic procedures that can be performed at once. Usually individuals needing this procedure are also in need of volume in the face, therefore fat grafting is commonly added to this procedure. Chemical peels are often added to address textural issues of the skin.
The deep plane facelift is usually performed under twilight sedation. A discreet incision is made just inside the hairline, starting at the temple, continuing down in front of the ear, around the earlobe, and into the hairline behind the ear. The deeper tissues and muscles of the face are then gently lifted upward to restore a more youthful contour. Sutures are used to hold these structures in place as they heal. Excess skin is removed, and the remaining skin is smoothed over the lifted areas. The incisions are closed with fine sutures using a technique that reduces tension and helps minimize visible scarring.
Swelling and bruising is normal post-procedure. In many cases this resolves within 10 days, but can last up to two weeks. Dressings will be changed at your 24-48 hour post-op. Sutures and staples will be completely removed after one week. It is normal to have numbness and itching during the healing process. Certain activities may be limited until you receive clearance from the doctor.
After the surgery it is best to use cold compresses and lay in an elevated position to reduce swelling and increase comfort. Pain medication is prescribed and can be used to aid in comfort levels post-surgery. You will need to clean the area and wear the recommended garment until your one week post-op check-in.
Any procedure that addresses cosmetic needs is not usually covered by insurance. Special cases such as trauma may be reimbursable in part or whole. It is the patient’s responsibility for pre-approval of coverage and to process the claim for insurance.
