Preparation

Once you have scheduled your procedure, Dr. Vargas will provide you with a set of pre-operative instructions to help you prepare. These may include:

  • Avoiding Certain Medications: Under the proper medical guidance, discontinue the use of any blood-thinning medications or supplements.
  • Arranging Time to Rest: Prepare to take some time away from your career and social commitments to give your body a chance to recover.
  • Preparing a Ride: Ask a trusted friend or relative to transport you home after your procedure.
  • Filling Your Prescriptions: Acquire any medications you will need to take as you recover.
  • Avoid Alcohol: Refrain from consuming any alcohol in the weeks leading up to your appointment.

Procedure

Dr. Vargas performs each neck liposuction procedure in her office. When you arrive, Dr. Vargas will meet with you one last time to reconfirm each detail of your treatment plan. You will then receive either a sedative or twilight anesthesia for comfort.

Dr. Vargas will place a small incision just under the chin before injecting a tumescent solution of lidocaine, epinephrine, and saline. Upon administration, it will numb local tissues, minimize bleeding, and swell the fat cells to make them easier to remove. (2) Dr. Vargas will gently insert a suctioning cannula through the incision and move it back and forth until she has liquefied and suctioned the fat out.

Dr. Vargas will then dress the treated area and let you rest. She does not typically use sutures during this procedure, as the incisions she makes are extremely small.

Recovery

After neck liposuction, it is common to experience some swelling, bruising, and soreness around the treated areas. You may manage these side effects with a cold compress, prescribed medications, and plenty of rest. As you continue to heal, these effects will gradually dissipate on their own. Dr. Vargas will also provide you with a compression garment to wear throughout your recovery. This garment will prevent additional swelling and maintain your neck’s new sculpt as your tissues settle and heal. You will be able to return to most of your daily activities after resting for approximately one to two weeks. Still, you will need to refrain from anything strenuous until Dr. Vargas approves.

Dr. Vargas will provide you with a full set of recovery instructions so that you know what to expect. You should follow these closely, as your aftercare can directly influence the quality of your results.

Results

You may be able to notice immediate improvements after your procedure, but the full results will become more pronounced as any residual swelling dissipates. Your neck will appear more slender, defined, and proportionate, and your skin will look and feel smoother and tighter. Each of these effects may contribute to a greater sense of body positivity and self-esteem.

The results of neck liposuction are long-lasting, with many of Dr. Vargas’s patients experiencing improvements for years. However, you will need to maintain a stable weight to preserve your renewed contours, as weight fluctuations can alter their appearance over time.
