CelluSmooth Comes to Kansas City!

Have you heard about CelluSmooth, the new minimally-invasive Sciton laser treatment for lumpy or dimpled skin? It’s the latest technique in body contouring. Patients, as well as professionals in the field, are calling it a “breakthrough that provides long-lasting results.” What makes CelluSmooth unique is that it’s a laser treatment that specifically targets the parts of the skin that are lumpy and dimpled (aka cellulite). And the best part of this body contouring process is that it only requires a single treatment to see results. The CelluSmooth process is quick and the outcomes are amazing!

The plastic surgeons and cosmetic physicians at Sciton, Inc. in Palo Alto, California developed the CelluSmooth process by utilizing one of their medical laser and light systems to target the three underlying causes of cellulite. What are these three causes? An excellent question!

The first cause of the dimpled, lumpy appearance to the skin we all know as cellulite comes from fibrous bands of connecting tissue beneath the dermis (called septae) that create dimples and valleys in the surface texture of the skin. Another cause of cellulite is excess subcutaneous fat in the same region. Excess fat can create bulging areas between the fibrous bands and make the lumps and dimples on the surface of the skin all the more apparent. Lastly, uneven dermis atop the fat layer contributes to the appearance of dimples and bumps associated with cellulite.

Here at Vargas Face and Skin, we know that cellulite is a difficult issue for many women. The presence of cellulite is often brought on by hormonal factors, diet, lifestyle factors, and plain-old genetics. Cellulite is not a condition for more mature women; it can become apparent at any age. The presence of cellulite makes it difficult for women to wear certain types of clothing (and many types of swim suits). Fortunately, CelluSmooth offers a new option for those who are looking to dramatically decrease the appearance of cellulite in their thighs and buttocks. Through the use of a three-mode Sciton laser, each of the three underlying causes of cellulite is addressed separately. During the CelluSmooth process the proprietary Sciton laser system severs the fibrous septae bands below the surface of the skin to lessen the appearance of dimples. Then, the laser mode is switched to melt away the tiny pockets of fat that cause lumps and bulges on the surface of the skin. Finally, the laser is switched to a third mode to deliver heat to the underside of the dermis, coagulating proteins in the tissue and stimulating the body’s natural healing process to tighten and smooth the dermis.

The CelluSmooth procedure can be performed at Vargas Face and Skin with our in-house Sciton laser. The process is typically a standalone procedure, but CelluSmooth can also be completed in conjunction with a laser liposuction procedure when a greater effect is warranted.
